It must be the school holidays!

Thank you all for your rainfall observations. After a dry spring, we seem to have digressed into a wetter phase that most parents can typically relate to the start of the School holidays! Our observer from Scone in Perthshire only recorded 3mm in April. Other areas were not quite so dry and for example, Kemnay Academy in Aberdeenshire recorded 29.7 for the same month.

The Met office uses such rainfall data to produce summary maps of rainfall distribution across the UK. These are very interesting to view and can provide a quick way of comparing recent rainfall against 30 year averages. The map shows that the low totals that we observed in April were typical across most of the UK

I am pleased to announce that we are close to finishing some upgrades to the website that will hopefully improve the data presentation and increase the options for data entry. You will be able to enter multiple days without pressing ‘apply’ each day and there will an option to import historic data in batch from a spreadsheet.
